The Accidental Embroiderer

Birds, birds, and yet more birds…

This design has been hanging around my files for a long time now and I thought it was probably about time for me to post it. I did it some months ago, probably as something to cheer myself up during this long depressing year. It's maybe a bit silly and cartoony but all the same I like the bright colours. The five birds were designed to fit together into a panel, but of course they could be stitched separately. But I'm not sure how I could use them. On a bag, perhaps? They're not really suitable for soft furnishings or napkins or garments. Oh well, they were done for fun, and there's nothing wrong with that. As it's currently snowing here in the Cairngorms we could use some cheer at the moment!

  1. Hi Mia, I think separately they would make really neat tote bags or a purse, on the back shoulder area of a jean jacket,4 different birds stitched on 4 squares of different fabric to make a pillow are some suggestions that I have. They are very colorful and for some reason they remind me of Egyptian or African ancient paintings.

  2. I think you can put it on the backside of a jacket. Seeing this I understand that you made this to cheer yourselves. Me too!
    Thanks?

  3. Oh, what happy little birds! I’ll bet you had a lot of fun doing these, and the whole project made you smile whenever you worked on it. Love it! I always get such a kick out of your birds and their expressions, thinking about what they are doing or thinking…they have so much personality. This group almost seems like two – the upper birds looking ahead and up, while the lower level are searching below for food – or someone’s freshly-washed car to decorate! Thank you not for a smile, but a big grin!

  4. “Mama Mia”, those birds are so pretty & look FABULOUS in their cages, but I really like the look of the cluster of 5…so unique. Your work is getting better as you go, and your weather is actually crazier than ours for a change…Keep up the great work…
