The Accidental Embroiderer

Christmas preparations finished!

Well, thank goodness that seems to be the end of the work on the Christmas card commissions for this year. I’ve lost track of exactly how many of them I did but it will have been over 50. And as soon as I finished them I had to do something about a Christmas collection for my Secrets of Embroidery store. So what with one thing and another I’ve had more than my share of the Christmas celebrations before it’s even December. I think we’ll try to have a quiet and peaceful holiday this year!

But here are a few of the cards that I produced – some of the designs will be familiar to you! And if you’re a regular reader you may recognise a few freebies from previous years

Some of this year's cards

Most of the cards I made were quite large, but to be honest I rather preferred some of the smaller and simpler ones. These were stitched with metallic silver thread on a painted blue background: they were perhaps less spectacular than the large ones but they had a calm and a peace which was welcome.

Some Christmas calm

Anyway, I’ll get on with some new work now and try to prepare a freebie or two for you next week

  1. Mia, you have done wonderful job with the Christmas cards, the glitter really makes them. I do recognise the Christmas designs of past. The snowflakes are lovely too, I like the blue wash they are on. Given me some more ideas for next year, as i’m done with Christmas cards as well.
    Sandra.

  2. All the cards looks very festive, sparkly and bright. I like them all, it would be difficult to choose a favorite. I do like the one in the second row second card, the ornaments with the square. Maybe it is the geometric balance of it. The snowflakes are very nice with the sparkle of stars on the blue.
Last time I made something like that I did trees and candy canes with pink and lime colors with a few in turquoise. The trees were just triangles, with a variety of dots, curls and stars on them. All lime and pink. Even the candy can was pink with lime green holly leaves. That was a long while ago.
Well now you can rest a bit and enjoy the season. Merry, merry, ho-ho-ho!

  3. These are so wonderful! I think I’ll make some cards for my fiber group this year. You’re so inspiring!
    Happy holidays,
    Liz

  4. Love them! Good thing they were done on commission, or if I were you, I’d be thoroughly OVER cards. I did this three years ago to send to friends, and the last one was a Grinch that said “Bah Humbug”! Take care, and congrats on getting these done! Happy, peaceful and quiet holidays to you.

  5. Beautiful work, as usual! (I imagine you are exhausted…knowing you would rather design and digitize than stitch.) I especially like the bells and ornaments. Since many of these use metallic thread – which hates me – can you recommend a favorite brand that doesn’t self-destruct? Many thanks, and hope you have a wonderful, restful holiday season!

  6. They are all spectacular, Mia! I know that was lots of work, but they are truly gorgeous. I know all the recipients will feel extra special to get one of your cards!

  7. Hi Mia, Your cards are all Spectacular! I think my favorite ones are the blue cards with the metallic silver designs, although all of them are fabulous. All of the reciprocates of your cards will be thrilled with them. Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
