The Accidental Embroiderer

Another year, another NEOS

Well, that’s our yearly exhibition over, and as usual it was fun and exhausting at the same time. The North East Open Studios event is always well-supported, and involves almost all of the artists who live in this area, and our local exhibition was as popular as always. There was a great deal of interest in the embroideries – people weren’t used to seeing embroidery used in a way so different from the usual cross-stitch and crewel work. I was particularly pleased to see that the pieces with Mylar were of particular interest, and they also sold well. I must do some more of those!

Anyway, here are a couple of photographs of my table and some of the works

The table, with the machine set up and loose embroideries scattered around for people to handle

Some of the wall art pieces, a few of which I’ve shown in past posts, and others which I still have to post.

  1. Mia, what a wonderful display for NEOS. Glad to hear it was another success for you, some beautiful work as usual that you created. I do recognise some of the designs, the yellow birds and the mylar fish are some of my favourites, they are super. You certainly deserve a rest now to think about your next designs. CONGRATS ON A GOOD SHOW.

  2. Your display looks well set to draw lots of attention. Some people are amazed that embroidery can look so good. That big fish on the stand is a real eye-catcher. I see most of the ones you had shown us, I hope they all sold well for you. Once they see how well they look hanging on their wall they will remember you for next time.

  3. Hear, Hear!!! Great display and super that you were able to impress people with machine embroidery. And what a lot of work to prepare for it and to set it up. Kudos to a job well done, and I’m delighted the Mylar impressed people – I think it adds so much pizzazz to a piece.

  4. So nice to see your work at the display it is supposed to get, even though the exhibition is too far away for me. very nice pieces indeed!!
    thanks for the look!

  5. Everything looks gorgeous, Mia! I’m so glad it was a good show. Sorry you’re exhausted, but that happens every time, right? Did you get lots more commission customers? Your table, samples, and framed works all look so inviiting!
