The Accidental Embroiderer

Finishing off the Big Cats

First of all, I owe heartfelt thanks to all those people who responded to my request for ideas of how to finish off the Parliament of Birds that I posted last week. So many fantastic and original ideas! I am now seriously thinking of maybe doing more than one additional bird panel just to make use of all the possible ways to finish it. So – THANK YOU!

But now back to the Big Cats panel, and to the final two designs, which are a lion and a lioness

And here is the final version of the panel stitched together, with a couple of small  twigs of greenery to make the shape into a regular rectangle.

After looking at if for some time, I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't have made the backgrounds brighter in some ways. But it's subtle as it is, so I'll leave it. So that's finished. On to something new!

  1. Hi Mia, Love the all of the big cats and your hand painted backgrounds awesome backgrounds. Have you ever thought about using fringe embroidery for the lion’s mane and the lion’s and lioness tails?

  2. Mia, A great project finished for the vet. Hopefully it can be displayed somewhere prominent in the practice, so all can see your fabulous work. I am sure it will be much admired.WELL DONE.

  3. I’m just catching up with these, sorry to be late. I’m sure the recipient of this panel was very excited, and I join Sandra in hoping he’ll display it so others can share the enjoyment. I still love the motion conveyed by the cheetah, but the tiger has to be my favorite! I noticed the tails’ positions really convey a lot, and are perfect for each species. Lots of research! Another wonderful project completed – kudos!
