The Accidental Embroiderer

The problem with modern life…

Well I know that technology can be a wonderful thing, but there are times when I wish I could just go back to pen and paper. In fact, recently I’ve HAD to go back to pen and paper. My printer doesn’t work, my scanner has packed it in, and if that weren’t enough, my big embroidery machine has collapsed and has had to go back to the mechanic for attention.

So there’s not a lot I can do at the moment – and that includes putting out new blogs, because I need to scan and print images of embroideries in order to have something to post. And of course I have to embroider them in the first place!

But luckily I’ve found some old images which I don’t think I’ve posted before. This one may look familiar, because I posted a single fish from it on the 7th of July of this year. At the time I said that I wanted to use the design as part of a larger one that would emphasise its “Celticness”, and I came up with this

Twofish

Two Celtic fish swimming in swirls of Celtic water

Well, it’s dramatic enough to keep me going for a while, until I can get all my technical tools fixed. Then I hope I’ll be able to come back with some freebies to make up for the delay

  1. Good morning from the continent! Ouh, these are not really good news, cause I know, that you have to embroider lot`s of things…Maybe it`s time to hop over and visit me….In the moment I have 3 big embroidery machines in my little working space.2 friends asked me to help them with the V3, which didn`t wanted to work as horses…I fed them with oil, put all the bad things out.micro-threads, needle-pieces and dirt…and now they are running….We have autumn holidays, school-free,so they will go to their owners in about 2 weeks. We could work together….Greetings from the place full of autumn sun and sunday-silence!!

  2. I totally understand technological problems! Our printer died a while back and we had to buy another one. Our truck has some electical problems that is going to be over $2000 and my computer just updated again telling me I am unable to access some of my embroidery sites/groups because there is a security issue, but I have no trouble accessing them on my husband’s computer. I think my computer just likes to keep me in a frustrated state! Hopefully, you get all of your technological issues fixed quickly so you can get back to embroidering. Love your colorful and elegant fish scene.

  3. I am so sorry you have had all that trouble. Just having the embroidery machine down is enough, but to have all that is a crisis. Many years ago I had a similar event and I taught myself to do Kumihimo from some of the good videos on YouTube. I made a lot of bracelets and necklaces. Lately I had gotten a bit bored with some of my embroidery so I had always wanted to knot pearls andI looked up a bunch of sites and learned to do the knotting, so now I am doing some gemstone necklaces and have some pearls to do when I am better at it. I just go to something else to keep my creativity alive until things change or get fixed. Here is a lady who shows how to do an easy method of knotting beads. You might be tempted. Lots of pretty gemstones online that ar all prices and often on sale. Keep creating! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAQ1SAoOVyE

  4. Oh my goodness Mia!!! What a quagmire of problems. I just got a new printer after months of deliberating, researching and agonizing. I loved my old printer – it did everything I wanted BUT it stopped one day telling me I needed a new ink cartridge. It also needs new print heads which are not being made any longer. So now I have a printer that scans, sends FAX and is WiFi enabled, none of which I need, as we have a great flat-bed scanner. Just try to find a printer without all the bells and whistles. Sigh – good luck with your repairs!
