The Accidental Embroiderer

And more for the shows…

It’s that time of year when all my time and energy are devoted to producing works for the upcoming autumn exhibitions, and of course I’m trying my best to come up with things that will have overall appeal. Brightness always goes down well – people are often drawn to eye-catching colours, so now is the time to get out all my most colourful threads.

This next design was inspired by a T-shirt that was recently worn by Audrey, a fellow artist who lives locally. The shirt was an attractive mass of printed flowers of all sorts of kinds and sizes, but it was all done in very muted and boring shades of grey, and I couldn’t help thinking that it would be much more interesting if it were just a bit brighter

Bright blooms for the show

Well, you can’t get much brighter than this! I think perhaps I got a little carried away, but at any rate this should probably get people’s attention!

But the problem with this kind of embroidery is that I begin to see things that should be changed, after it’s all finished and it’s too late. This one – well, maybe it needs some stems and perhaps leaves to join things together. Oh well, I have a few weeks left to make changes

  1. Hi Mia, Love the various flowers that you digitized in fun, bright colors! I think adding some leaves and stems would add another dimension to flowers you have already digitized and enable you to get another work of art out of these flowers. I will be looking forward to seeing the new embroidery designs that you dream up for your upcoming exhibition.

  2. Hiho,I`m looking forward to see the designs at secrets…Be sure, that will be really great. Sometimes I only need one flower to get an accent on a shirt.Therefor I`ld prefer to have single flowers, stems and a leaf to combine them in my way..Cause my name is Saxe, I embroidered in big letters….poor but saxy…on my shirt and spent hours to find a nice single little flower…
Fantastic work by Mia! Greetings from the sunny side of ma garden…Yours..Bea

  3. Love your designs Mia, always so bright and eye-catching. Another eye-catcher is a peacock tail…bright almost flourescent blues and greens with spots of white and yellow … just too pretty! Always popular. And speaking of always popular, hummingbirds. Can’t go wrong with them ;} Best Wishes!

  4. ♥️♥️♥️ It is beautiful. ♥️♥️♥️
I’d make it as a wall tapestry 🐦

  5. Hi Mia, a wonderful collection of stunning colours. Just my opinion, if adding leaves I think it would be somewhat over crowded. Maybe minus a few small flowers and add a butterfly or two, A larger area as a wall hanging scene would also look good with luminous colour threads or a few small beads. As time is of the essence, maybe just a bit of sparkle and a fine leaf vine inter mingled through the flowers.

  6. Now those are some AMAZING ideas! Ive always liked the combination of butterflies and flowers, and have done some pieces combining the two, but I never thought of butterflies in this particular piece. YES – its a great idea, along with the other suggestions
Do you digitise? I cant remember if youve told me before. If you do, Id be delighted to send you the file so you can adapt it!

  7. No digitise for me, I am not that clever. Leave that up to the experts. I can some times lay a small design on top of existing designs and manipulate it that way a little, as long as there is space to move around..
